Virtual All-Star Band helps fight COVID-19

The last few weeks I have been working on project involving a Virtual All-Star Brass Band, to raise money for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO. The band is made up of some of the finest brass and percussion players from around the banding world and representing around a dozen nationalities. It's safe to say it would be nearly impossible to get this group of players altogether in one room ordinarily, but due to the wonders of technology this has made possible! Below is the video.

“The success of new music is often reliant on a unique synergy between composer and performer; an alliance that although infrequently palpable in today’s musical landscape, is often evident in the music of Andrew Wainwright. Through his remarkably creative compositional voice, coupled with his performing experience, we find a writer capable of producing music to resonate meaningfully with an audience, whilst artistically stimulating those performing it. Whether it be via skilfully crafted arrangements or innovative compositions, Andrew Wainwright is making an immense impression on the brass band world with music that performers revel in and audiences savour.”

Nick Simmons-Smith

Territorial Music Secretary (The Salvation Army - USA Southern Territory)

"Andrew Wainwright is one the most gifted composers of our generation. He consistently produces exciting music that is as fun to play, as it is to listen. He has a gift for presenting a clear message through his music, taking the listener on a journey from joyous frivolity, high drama, extreme tension, to exceptional meditative reflection - sometimes all in one piece of music! Andrew has his own voice as a composer – his style is his own, drawn from experience and a deep knowledge of the genre he is writing in, whether it be brass band, orchestra or wind band. He is also fortunate to be an excellent graphic artist, writer, and type setter. His sheet music is always clean and professionally produced. I highly recommend using Andrew’s work, or even commissioning him to write a new work for you and your ensemble. He is really easy to work with and never disappoints!"

“Andrew Wainwright has emerged as a major talent via his innovative, attractive scores, both originals and arrangements. His fertile musical imagination balances well with his craft, his technique. Prolific in output, he is building an impressive catalogue of accessible, pleasing works that are making significant contributions in the brass band, orchestral, and wind band repertoires.”

Stephen Squires

Educator & Conductor - Elgin Symphony Orchestra & The Illinois Brass Band

"I have been fortunate to work with Andrew in developing new works/arrangements for brass band and new arrangements for orchestra Christmas concerts. In every case, I have found his work to be fresh, creative, and full of vitality. He has a clear sense of orchestration, and makes wise and musical choices at all times! Everyone I work with, from amateur players to seasoned professionals agree that he is an exceptional talent. I am proud to be among his ardent fans!"
